Journey back in time with Care & Share’s Auction App – all the way back to 1919! This week on our Auction App, we are highlighting a Planet Jr. Antique Hand Push Cultivator!

Cultivators have been used throughout the history of farming to aerate the soil before planting seeds or as a way to control weeds once plants have begun to grow. Originally farmers used single hoes for this purpose, or even several hoes fashioned together and then dragged behind a draft animal to expedite the process.

Then, in the 18th and 19th centuries, as the Industrial Revolution blossomed, farming tools were continually being innovated, updated and refined. Fast forward to 1919, where we meet our Planet Jr. Hand Push Cultivator as featured today on our Auction App.

Children were a primary component of the workforce for many farms in the 1900s.  Responding to that fact, Allen and Co created the Planet Jr. Hand Push Cultivator stating that this single-wheeled hoe, “is light and well suited for the use of boys or girls.” This way children had a mechanism that was easier for them to use, and was of a more manageable size.

Today, you may have a child or grandchild that enjoys helping in the garden, or perhaps you are looking for an interesting conversation piece for your home.  This unique piece of history could be yours – visit our auction app and place a bid today!
