Have you ever tried to collect something? Maybe as a child, you collected rocks, stamps, or even butterflies. Or now as an adult maybe you collect books, figurines, or coins. All kinds of people, of all ages all over the world engage in the hobby of collecting.

According to Vocabulary.com, “The term ‘collector’ comes from a Latin word meaning ‘to gather’”. By the late 1700s, anyone who gathered any one kind of item became known as a collector.

There are even specific terms for people who collect certain kinds of items. For instance, Lepidopterists are people who collect butterflies, Plangonologists are people who collect dolls and Receptarists are collectors of recipes. All kinds of niche groups have created communities based on collecting one specific item.

The Lepidopterists’ Society is a group of butterfly and moth lovers founded in 1947. Their society boasts over 1,000 members across 40 countries around the world, all dedicated to the study and appreciation of Lepidoptera.

This week we are featuring a gorgeous set of 3 framed taxidermied butterflies. But butterflies aren’t the only collector’s items we have. For horologists, we have vintage German clocks! We have holiday-inspired lego sets for the AFOLs (Adult Fans of Legos). And for the Ferroequinologists, we even have train sets.

Whether you’re starting a collection, or adding to one, check out our auction app, it’s sure to scratch your itch!
