You may be asking yourself, what is this gigantic Hummel and what is it doing at Care & Share?
Our Hummel story starts back in the 1970s when select dealers had the opportunity to buy limited edition jumbo Hummels measuring 33” in height. Dealers were specially invited to Germany where they were given a tour of the factory grounds. One special Souderton gift shop owner was given the opportunity to bring home two “Apple Tree” figurines, one boy and one girl. The shop may be familiar to you – our former neighbor Fredrick’s Flowers!
The pair of Hummel children sat on display in Fredrick’s Flowers for 50 years waiting to find a home. Care & Share comes into the picture in early 2024. Frederick’s was going out of business. During one of the final auctions this pair of Hummel children went up for sale. We knew we could find homes for these two unique figurines so we bought them. We listed both on ebay and very quickly sold the boy for $19,000 to a woman who searched for one her whole life! We hope we can find a home just as loving for our Hummel girl (click here) so we can continue to benefit MCC, the primary charity that receives our proceeds!
We know our volunteers and shoppers love to hear about the storied pasts of the unique treasures for sale in our shoppes. This is but one of countless others. What story will you uncover next?
