Many of us were trained in our youth that being “on time” meant being 10 minutes early!  That is a very good habit to have, and to model for others.

When it comes to your volunteer service at Care & Share, we ask you to consider carefully the following request around the start time of your service.

As we manage staff hours (cost) and safety of all team members, we have requested that our paid staff start their work day at 9AM, and only those charged with opening shoppe cash registers start approximately 5-8 minutes before the hour.  That means that paid staff are asked to be on time at 9AM, but not to arrive earlier, unless they are opening a cash register.  This aids in providing as much staff time during our open shoppe hours as possible.  Adding 5-10 minutes coming in early can create up to 1.5 hours of overtime each pay period.  This is a very real cost to our operations.

Our workrooms are full of goods and equipment, and we want to have safe passageways for all team members.  Our keyholders are instructed to enter the building prior to opening and make sure lights are on and the passageways are clear of obstacles.  From an important safety perspective, we do not want team members walking through dimly lit interiors and risk stumbling or falling.

For this reason, we kindly request that volunteers and other staff remain in the breakrooms if you arrive prior to 9AM.  Your department manager will give the all clear at 9AM to enter the work areas.  This is a safety-related request.

Our customers like to arrive at 9AM, but they need some time to shop before checking out.  In looking at daily sales flows, it is frequently 9:15AM before we see any significant sales dollars rung up.

Our keyholders have been reminded that they should not unlock team member doors prior to 8:50AM at the earliest.  They will be held accountable for this request, so we appreciate that team members do not pressure them for early entrance.

If arriving 10 minutes early to be “on time”, please enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in the breakroom until 9AM.  We value your service, and we value your safety!

If you have any questions, see your manager or a member of the administration.
