For the past several years, Elsie Horner has been coming to volunteer at Care & Share Thrift Shoppes. We only get her for a week or two once every year because she lives in Indiana!  When she comes to Souderton to visit her daughter Karla Myers, (also a C&S Volunteer) she gives some of that time to us and she loves it! She started in donations, sorting items, and now works in Variety on the sales floor stocking items. She likes that she has the opportunity to decorate and arrange merchandise, something she loves to do. But the thing she likes most about the time she gets to spend at Care & Share is the friendliness and spirit that she can feel while she is here serving. She said she “gets a warm feeling when I walk in the door.” And she has heard the same from our customers. Elsie feels like she is part of the global community, making a connection to the rest of the world through the work she does here. She also appreciates the people that work here and notices the patience that they have with volunteers. When she goes back to Indiana, Elsie is involved in volunteering with her church, especially for their annual pie sale. She is looking forward to supporting MCC at the annual Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale held at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen IN.  She will be volunteering by arranging dried flowers – a very popular feature at the sale!  Just from talking with her for a few minutes, you can tell that Care & Share is the highlight of her service experiences and we are so honored that she continues to come back every year to serve alongside us.

Photographed with Elsie (left) is Kathleen “Kat” Delp, who visits our area from New York.  She also volunteers when visiting her mother, Sara Halteman, a long-time, dedicated volunteer in the Outlet.
