From June 9-13, 2025, we held the Great Clothing Sort, a new, off-site volunteer opportunity. We weren’t sure completely what to expect, but the space at Bergey’s warehouse (former Young’s Supply) on East Cherry Lane was buzzing the entire week!
We had a great time, and many new connections were made. We had 87 volunteers serve that week, and 51 of them were NEW volunteers – people who aren’t recurring C&S volunteers! People came from churches, from reading about it on social media, or through the invitation of their friends.
A total of 288 hours were donated. Every shift had a good turnout, and we accomplished so much work.
We filled 65 gaylords with beautiful clothing that is ready to be hung and tagged. (A gaylord is a large cardboard container measuring 4’ by 40” by 4’ high.) In addition, many, many children’s clothes were brought to be tagged and hung, and right now we need children’s clothing! Shoes, handbags, accessories also were brought to the shoppe to be priced.
We are so appreciative of the support of this event. We will be looking to do another event similar to this in September. If you didn’t have a chance to join us this month, perhaps you can join us then, and bring a friend!
To honor the work that was accomplished, we plan to make an above-budget contribution to MCC of $4,000 in the next month. A BIG thanks to Board Member Ron Bergey for assisting us with the movement of gaylords during the week and for hosting the event at Bergey’s Electric’s Warehouse.
The story behind the contribution will be shared with MCC. Thank you for being a part of it!
