Volunteer Shopping Week 2026
National Volunteer Week will be celebrated in the United States from April 19-25, 2026. The federal government began recognizing Volunteer Week as a formal holiday beginning in 1974. This week provides an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteers and their service, which tackle many of society’s greatest needs and build stronger communities. The theme this year is SHINING A LIGHT ON THE PEOPLE AND CAUSES THAT INSPIRE US TO SERVE.
The American Presidency Project noted in a proclamation in 2022, “People who volunteer develop new skills, build their personal and professional networks, forge a deeper connection with their communities and service organizations, and experience the joy of serving a larger cause….Students gain real world experience, workers apply their skills to organizations that benefit from their experience and often develop new skills in the process, and older Americans improve their health and longevity. At every age and stage in life, volunteers experience the profound joy of giving back.”
Recent data from the Urban Institute indicate that Americans volunteer 8.8 billion hours each year. We are so thankful that you have chosen to volunteer your time with Care & Share! Your work here strengthens communities around the world through MCC, and the community our team members share has inspired many new volunteers to join us in service. We are grateful.
Care & Share will be shining a light on your service during this week! As a way to show our appreciation, from April 20 through 25th, we will hold our volunteer shopping week. As in the past, you and your families and friends will be entitled to 50% off items in our retail shoppes the entire week.* To receive the discount, the active volunteer must be present. We also will provide you with a $10 gift certificate to use during this week. Due to rising postage costs and uncertainty of timely postal delivery, instead of mailing postcards to your home this year, we are asking that you stop in the Welcome Center during Volunteer Shopping Week, and Suzanne Kratz or Jill Rotelle will have your $10 gift certificate for you. Also, look for raffles and other special recognition during our celebration of you!
